Appreciation

This project is focused on the area of Bute Park around the Blackweir bridge in Cardiff. This area acts as a gathering point for both people and wild-life. With its location being so close to the center of the capital, it is quite remarkable how natural it feels. I wanted to explore what brings people to this place over and over again by engaging with them and having valuable conversations. I then photographed those approached, capturing the emotions brought up in them. Having a proper conversation with the people before even asking them for a photograph allowed me to make them feel comfortable around me, therefore showing their emotion, which I then can capture.

Blackweir is not some bridge over a river. It is a place, where people go to relax, clear their minds, observe and connect with nature. All this right by the heart of the city. This project shows the people who are aware of how special this place is, showing the appreciation and gratitude they feel from being honoured tohave access to such a place.
